Tamil Nadu's industrial corridors: where the engineering jobs are

A guide to Tamil Nadu's main industrial clusters for engineers: Sriperumbudur, Oragadam, Hosur, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Manali and Thoothukudi.

Chennai–Sriperumbudur–Oragadam

The western corridor along the Chennai–Bengaluru highway holds vehicle plants, electronics factories, Tier-1 suppliers and large warehouses. It is the biggest single source of production, quality and NPD roles.

North Chennai: Manali, Ennore, Gummidipoondi

The northern belt has refineries, petrochemical and fertilizer plants, thermal power, ports, steel and heavy fabrication. E&I, mechanical and NDT engineers find steady work here.

Hosur

Hosur in Krishnagiri district has two-wheeler, EV, aerospace and electronics plants close to Bengaluru, and is part of the Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor.

Coimbatore and Tiruppur

Coimbatore leads in pumps, motors, foundries and textile machinery, while Tiruppur dominates knitwear exports. Both have large engineering-services and IT sectors too.

Tiruchirappalli

Built around BHEL, Tiruchirappalli has hundreds of fabrication units making boiler parts, pressure vessels and structures. Welding, QA/QC and NDT experience is valued.

Thoothukudi and the south

Thoothukudi has a major port, thermal power, chemicals and salt, while Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi host India's densest wind farms and new green-hydrogen projects.
