How to write an engineering CV that gets shortlisted

Practical CV advice for mechanical, electrical, civil and E&I engineers applying to Chennai and Tamil Nadu employers.

Lead with the role you want

Put the position and industry at the top: 'Quality Engineer – Auto Components, 4 years, IATF 16949'. Recruiters screen hundreds of CVs, and a clear headline gets yours read.

Show the plant, the product and the numbers

For each job, list the company type, the product you worked on and two or three results. 'Cut weld rework from 6% to 2.5% on a pressure vessel line' says more than 'responsible for quality'.

List tools and codes exactly

Write the software, codes and standards you actually use: SolidWorks, STAAD.Pro, Primavera P6, ASME Sec VIII, IS 800, PPAP. Employers search for these words.

Keep it to two pages

Two pages is enough for up to fifteen years of experience. Remove school marks once you have work experience, and keep personal details to name, phone, email and current location.

Add your notice period and location preference

Indian employers always ask about notice period, current CTC and willingness to relocate. Stating them up front saves a round of calls.
