Most freshers join as Graduate Engineer Trainees (GET), Diploma Engineer Trainees (DET) or apprentices in production, quality or maintenance. These roles train you on the shop floor.
Apprenticeships
Government-supported apprenticeship schemes let large manufacturers train freshers for a year with a stipend, and many absorb good apprentices into permanent roles.
Skills that help
AutoCAD, basic measuring instruments, an understanding of 5S and safety, and comfortable spoken English and Tamil help freshers clear interviews.
Be flexible on location
Openings for freshers are often in Sriperumbudur, Oragadam, Hosur, Cheyyar and other industrial towns rather than central Chennai. Being open to relocate widens your options.
