NDT certification guide for engineers in India

How to become an NDT engineer: ASNT Level I, II and III, UT, RT, MPT, DPT, PAUT and TOFD, and where NDT jobs are in Tamil Nadu.

What NDT engineers do

Non-destructive testing checks welds and materials without damaging them. The common methods are ultrasonic (UT), radiography (RT), magnetic particle (MPT) and dye penetrant (DPT) testing.

Certification levels

Most employers ask for ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II in the methods you will perform. Level I works under supervision, Level II can set up, interpret and report, and Level III approves procedures.

Advanced methods

Phased array (PAUT) and time-of-flight diffraction (TOFD) are increasingly specified by refinery and pipeline clients. They take more training and pay noticeably better.

Radiation safety

Radiography work in India falls under AERB rules. Site RT technicians need radiological safety training, and employers check this before deployment.

Where the jobs are

Fabrication shops in Tiruchirappalli and North Chennai, piping and pipeline contractors, power plant maintenance teams and shipyards hire NDT engineers all year.
